Hello, everyone, this is your gentle reminder that we'll be meeting tomorrow evening, Tuesday, September 23, at 7 p.m. at our usual place, the Region 2 headquarters building for TWRA on the Ellington Agricultural Center campus.
(If you haven't met with us before, directions* follow.)
PRE-MEETING EATING -Several members already enjoy getting together at Las Palmas Mexican restaurant down in the Nippers Corners shopping center, at the corner of Ellington Parkway and Old Hickory Boulevard. Come join them - as soon after 5 as you can get there, to enjoy your meal before the 7:00 meeting.
BRING YOUR UNIDENTIFIED FLOWERING OBJECTS (or photos of them)! Botanist Todd Crabtree, of the state's Division of Natural Areas, will be with us to help us identify the flowers and ferns (and maybe a few other growing things) we see along the trails. We'll have several wildflower and fern guides on hand and he will give us tips on how to put these guides to good use.
This is our last full chapter meeting before the ANNUAL MEETING which is October 24-26 at Indian Creek Camp near Liberty, TN, on the western shore of Center Hill Lake and across from Edgar Evins State Park. Come learn how you can enjoy it and help make it great. Check out the Annual Meeting on the TTA website: www.tennesseetrails.org , click on 2008 Annual Meeting, right under "Home" in the highlighted column on the left of the screen.
SATURDAY PLANS?? Sept. 27 at Montgomery Bell State Park in Burns, TN, an event is planned that is right up your alley. Brandon Puttbrese of Get Fit Tennessee (a state program under a wing of the Tenn. Dept. of Health) has told us that Montgomery Bell will be celebrating National Public Lands Day by promoting the park's 19 miles of hiking trails, 20 miles of mountain bike trails, and the lake's many recreational opportunities. They'll also be doing a clean-up.
We have an opportunity to have the TTA display there if some people can be found to populate it. (I will have to be out of town - the organization I work for, the Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation, has a major land dedication on Saturday and that is where I will need to be.) I will have the display with me at the meeting, and hope to find some willing folks to represent us at this event.
Get Fit will be there alongside the Department of Environment and Conservation celebrating National Public Lands Day by promoting the park's 19 miles of hiking trails, 20 miles of mountain bike trails and the lakes many recreational opportunities. They'll also be doing a clean up.
THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO BE INVOLVED IN TTA - WE'LL LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING YOU WITH US.
*DIRECTIONS, as promised: From the intersection of Edmondson Pike with Old Hickory Blvd (at Nippers Corner), go north 1.5 miles, then turn left into the back entrance of Ellington Agricultural Center. Go 1/2 mile, then bear right up the hill. TWRA is on the right. (map).
Cheers,
