Good morning, everyone. We have a matter before us that needs to be made known to the whole Nashville membership, as it requires a decision.

Chatper Treasurer Doug Burroughs reports that the chapter has a balance of $2917.34 after donating the $510 raised by the gift wrappers at REI (Thanks again to REI, Diane Manas and her "elves"). He is asking us to decide on the donation of those funds as allocated here:
Cumberland Trail Conference $775 (we donated $300 last year)
    Beaman Park $375
    Greenways for Nashville $250
    Radnor Lake $100
    Warner Parks $1,000*

*Here is the information that may clarify why this proposed allocation is so heavily weighted to Warner Parks, for this year only, copied from the Friends of Warner Parks website (http://www.friendsofwarnerparks.com/) :

"Friends close to goal after Hill Tract price is reduced
Friends of Warner Parks is within striking distance of its goal to buy more than 322 acres of undeveloped forestland, much of it untouched since the founding of America.

Located across Highway 100 from Percy and Edwin Warner Parks, the Hill Tract is valued at $17 million. The Hill Company, in recognition of FRIENDS' significant fundraising progress in what has been a difficult economic environment, has offered to lower the asking price of $13,250,000 to $10,800,000. They want us to succeed so that the land will be preserved forever.

This reduction in price is conditioned upon FRIENDS making a firm decision by the end of January as to whether or not we will be comfortable in proceeding to close. Over the next 45 days we will make a concerted effort to obtain contributions and pledges in an amount which will give us the necessary confidence to borrow the "gap" funds needed to proceed to closing.

We have traveled a long road to get to this point. If we all push together, we can achieve this worthy goal."

(Thanks to Doug Burroughs for getting the information.)

As you can see, a decision is eminent on for Friends of Warner Parks. As much as we local hikers use their trails, this is a good opportunity to support this effort, and is at the heart of the TTA mission: "To promote, construct and maintain a statewide system of hiking trails, and to work for the conservation of natural resources ihherent to this objective."

We need to approve or not approve the allocation in a timely manner so we can present a check of whatever size you decide to Friends of Warner Parks very soon. (We can contact them to confirm a pledge and lodge our intention in case we can't physically deliver a check by the 31st.)

Now we need a vote, folks. Please reply to this e-mail as soon as you can, and let me know:

Yes, I approve this allocation OR No, I prefer a different allocation
(please detail your own allocation figures)

IF NOs PREVAIL, WE WILL SORT OUT YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS AND THE MAJORITY FIGURES WILL BE USED TO PREPARE THE DONATION CHECKS.

Just please let your voice be heard, and thank you in advance for your consideration in a big hurry.

Yours,
Nora Beck, chapter chair
