This is a special invitation to all Tennessee Trails Association
members, and other Tennessee hikers, to attend the 6th annual Trails &
Trilliums event in Sewanee on April 18 & 19th.
Mack Prichard, recently retired State Naturalist, is being honored with
this year's Yeatman Award for Environmental Education. It was Mack's
conversations with Bob Brown and Evan Means in October 1968 that led to
the formation of TTA in December 1968 and to the passage of the 1971
Tennessee Scenic Trails System Act. For the past 40 years, Mack has
traveled more than a million miles across Tennessee, shot over 20,000
photographs, and spoke to at least 2,500 audiences urging the need for
conservation and spreading his love of nature. He served as Park
Naturalist, State Archaeologist, and Natural Areas Administrator prior
to being named Tennessee’s first state naturalist.
There will be lots of activities at Trails & Trilliums, including
several choices of wildflower hikes on Saturday. TTA members will be
assisting with these hikes. On Sunday, there will be hikes into the 3000
acre tract recently acquired in Lost Cove by the University of the
South, with assistance from the Land Trust of Tennessee.
The TTA Highland Rim Chapter will have an information booth at Trails &
Trilliums on Saturday.
A full schedule of activities and events is available on the Trails &
Trilliums website at http://www.trails.sasweb.org.
